Wednesday 18 Jan 2012 – Upstream telco intermittent packet loss

Wednesday 18 January 2012

At 2.35pm upstream telecommunications providers, in routing Internet traffic to Mach’s COY Data Centre, were doing so in a fashion that is resulting in intermittent packet loss of ~10%.

This was affecting services differently (web traffic minimal, email is slower – but remote desktop sessions are most susceptible) – there was no ‘outage’.

Mach engineers responded immediately, re-routed traffic within our inter-DC links to mitigate the issue/impact – and having sweated the carrier(s) to solve their issue, achieved resolution at 2.50pm (15min).
