At approximately 8am, Mach’s monitoring platform detected a degradation in services traversing public internet links into the Cooroy Data Centre. There is/was no fault with any Mach systems or infrastructure.
With the assistance of upstream carrier providers, the root cause was identified as extraordinarily high traffic usage by a web application for a particular customer hosted at this Data Centre site.
This knowledge allowed Mach staff to then track the external traffic flow accessing this web application, isolate it technically using Mach’s QoS and Intrusion Detection systems, which then immediately returned comms link traffic flows and QoS levels to normal at 10.30am.
